This
Month's we welcome Anne W.
Jackson, Ph.D. to give a Mini-Workshop on
Grammar, Syntax, & Usage.
An
acknowledged authority on correct and effective written and spoken
communication, Anne W. Jackson, Ph.D., holds a cum laude degree in English
Literature from Mount Holyoke College, a doctorate in Comparative Literature
from Columbia University, and a Diplôme des études françaises from the French
government. Her research includes drama in the nineteenth-century novel,
children’s literature, comparative grammar, the structure and development of
English, and ESL teaching methods. She lives and works in Boston, where she
writes, lectures, and conducts workshops on U.S. American English grammar and
usage; small-business and life skills; and gardening, composting, and recycling.
Dr. Jackson’s consultancy, Words are My Work, provides worksite training and
small-group and private instruction in communication-skills enhancement, and
offers premium editorial services, to a varied client roster of companies,
organizations, and individuals.

Loretta Chase’s summer 2008 release, YOUR
SCANDALOUS WAYS, made the shortlist in the 2009 American Library Association's
"Reading List Council”
awards for the best in genre fiction, Romance.

sold Japanese rights to MISS WONDERFUL, Russian rights to YOUR SCANDALOUS WAYS,
and Turkish rights to LORD OF SCOUNDRELS. Also,

romance. This was part of the promotion for Beyond Heaving Bosoms: The Smart

Chalk up another one for the NEC
Conference. The proposal Emily Bryan pitched to her editor Friday resulted in a
contract offer for a 5th book! STROKE OF GENIUS will be coming out in June 2010
from Leisure Books.
Terri Brisbin is
thrilled that her Holiday novella, BLAME IT ON THE MISTLETOE from One Candlelit
Christmas (Harlequin Historicals, November 2008), is a finalist for the RITA for
Best Novella!!
Marissa Doyle has
sold a third historical YA fantasy novel, tentatively titled The Waterloo
Plot, to Kate Farrell at Henry Holt Books for Young Readers, tentatively
scheduled for a fall 2010 release. Her second YA, Betraying Season, is
due out September 29, 2009, along with a paperback version of Bewitching
Season to be released on September 1.
Marissa is also
thrilled to report her first foreign rights sale for Bewitching Season--to
Japan! The publisher is Shogakukon, and Bewitching Season will be part
of a line of fantasy adventure books for girls. Some of the other authors in
the line are Tamora Pierce, Tanith Lee, Patricia McKillip, and Nancy Springer.
In other news,
Bewitching Season finaled in the YA categories of both the Gayle Wilson
Award of Excellence and the National Readers' Choice Awards.
